I also agree
with your remarks about the music - I had forgotten the vocalising element. The earlier comment you have received does make some valid points but she is looking at the evening as some form of performance art, surely, hence her reference to the Cirque du Soleil. Quite probably, a number of the audience were there to hear Ms Herbert and would have been there regardless of what was being shown on-screen. You, however,
were there for the film with the accompaniment as
an addition to enhance the experience.mgp1449https://www.blogger.com/profile/17285042777593974820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5018214889197226815.post-81519857372530745262010-03-11T17:55:04.087+00:002010-03-11T17:55:04.087+00:00Another instance where the original was improved b...Another instance where the original was improved by a later rework.

Mark Twain's was good, Will Rogers' was betterFunlovernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5018214889197226815.post-61866549940015579652010-03-11T13:43:36.302+00:002010-03-11T13:43:36.302+00:00Different strokes for different folks...that's...Different strokes for different folks...that's what makes horse-racing...Prettypinkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17951465374296834141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5018214889197226815.post-30690067762134900152010-03-11T12:02:42.691+00:002010-03-11T12:02:42.691+00:00I was surprised by your comments on the combinatio...I was surprised by your comments on the combination of an outstanding silent film and a less than silent Gwyneth Herbert.

As a confessed film addict you appear to have a blinkered view of how this medium should be treated.

My own view of last night's performance was that as entertainment it was outstanding.

What an evening at Southbank!

I was fortunate to sit directly in front of Ms Herbert at the end of the second row so was able to witness the incredible amount of energy that went into last night’s performance. Every time it seemed as though they were about to lose control, the three of them held it together and got better and better. The unmiked exit at the end of the event caused the hairs on the back of my neck to rise. What a performer!

I never imagined I would ever experience a combination of Kate Bush and Spike Jones with touches of Sergeant Pepper and Road Runner in a single performance. The choice of instruments was inspired with the saw player reminding me of my father who had this as his party piece. The risk was that the soundtrack could have been a distraction from the film action but I thought it complemented it perfectly and added a totally new dimension.

I could ramble on but suffice to say it was the best theatrical event I have seen since the Cirque du Soleil performance of the Beatles’ Love, in Las Vegas, where the performance interpreted the music. http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/lasvegas/en/shows/love.asp Last night's interpretation of the performance with music was simply brilliant.

The Patsy is a comedy, last night was a fun evening not a serious one and I am sure the film's production team would have loved it!Funlovernoreply@blogger.com
