With "True Grit", Jeff Bridges' performance was solid but possibly not even up to a nomination and Hailee Steinfeld did very well, but at her age it is easier surely to play single-minded determination as there is less real-life baggage to hide. I think you were unfair to Matt Damon in what was a somewhat underwritten role (Possibly a reflection of the book) and you hit the nail very firmly and rightly on the head regarding the cinematography. Surely CGI is not that hard to film spectacularly but it takes a true master like Roger Deakins to produce such beauty naturally-MGP1449Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5018214889197226815.post-61327769262118669652011-03-03T16:43:44.253+00:002011-03-03T16:43:44.253+00:00Something of a disappointment given the Coen broth...Something of a disappointment given the Coen brothers reputation and past work. Solidish performances from the supporting cast including Damon whose role seemed to be somewhat mis-written (again reference to Portis's book may clear this up). This leaves three elements - a really good performance by Hailee Steinfield, a good one by Jeff Bridges but certainly not an Oscar-winning one (possibly not even with a nomination) and exceptionally good cinematography by Roger Deakins.<br />Possibly a second viewing in a year or two will leave me with a rather higher regard for the film than I have at the moment as I would give it an overall mark of B++ to A-- only.mgp1449https://www.blogger.com/profile/17285042777593974820noreply@blogger.com
