Using the music actaully written by the Regent was a nice touch but Tavernier seems not to have decided whether he was making a farce or a serious historical expose.<br />The Ninth Gate: lacking your recent re-viewing, my recollection is that the film was a less than adequate recasting of an excellent Spanish thriller<br />though the basic outline was more or less unchanged.
